Whole life is sometimes called permanent life insurance, and it encompasses several subcategories, including traditional whole life, universal life, variable life and variable universal life. In 2003, about 6.4 million individual life insurance policies bought were term and about 7.1 million were whole life.Life insurance products for groups are different from life insurance sold to individuals. The information below focuses on life insurance sold to individuals.TermTerm Insurance is the simplest form of life insurance. Greener finances are taking root
The Budget was modestly eco-friendly. But if you want to do more to save the planet, several banks and insurers are offering a 'green' way forward. Emma Simon reports Last week's Budget aimed to reward consumers who go green - at least up to a point. Drivers of eco-friendly cars can look forward to a 30 per cent cut in fuel tax. But motorists who drive so-called "gas guzzlers" will see their road tax almost double, to £400 by April next year. .
What’s driving opinion against gas-guzzlers?
I wonder why people buy gas- guzzlers. Sophisticated marketing? A fashion statement of the greedy? Few would admit to it. An advertisement for the new Freelander 2 dropped on my mat this morning. It told me that motoring journalists had tested it across deserts and frozen wastes but there was no mention of its manoeuvring abilities in Tesco car parks. That's the problem. Country-dwellers are forever telling us they need their 4x4s but, with few exceptions, even they have only bought the hype. The tarmac stretches all the way to John O'Groats these days. That's why research suggests only 5% of these beasts ever venture off-road. Safety? Certainly, many people, women especially, say they like them because they make them feel safe, high above the ground in their reinforced metal box.
Owning A Home
For many young people the prospect of buying their own home is little more than a pipe dream. Rocketing house prices have put the average cost of a first home in London at 250,000, pushing many first time buyers into the 3% stamp duty threshold and walloping them with a 7,500 tax bill before they even get started. Another big headache is the enormous deposit required to buy a property. According to calculations the average first-time buyer is now stumping up a staggering 37,632 deposit to get on to the ladder. And with the spectre of more interest rate rises and the hefty costs associated with buying a property, many young adults believe their chances of owning a property are fading fast. But It's Not All Doom And Gloom First time buyers are a much-needed part of the mortgage market, so lenders are doing as much as they can to encourage them.
War spending hurts health care
As of March 10, Peachcare for Kids, Georgia's health insurance program for children of low-income families, will stop accepting new applicants. President Bush, in an effort to reign in the looming federal budget deficit, has submitted to Congress a budget that cuts the funding of programs such as Peachcare. It is precisely because of this uncertainty that the directors of Peachcare have decided to stop accepting new applicants, thereby denying health insurance to thousands of Georgia children. I am the father of a strapping four-year-old boy. He has always been on a private health insurance plan, but the plan is very expensive and provides inadequate coverage. The time has come for his first visit to the dentist, however such things are not covered by his private insurance plan.
Pet abuser given jail time
A Madison man who tortured his then-girlfriend's dogs until one was dead and the other maimed for life was put on probation for five years Wednesday and ordered to spend nearly six months in jail. Jeremiah Purtell, 21, was also ordered not to have any contact with his former girlfriend or her family, not to own any animals, and to get mental health treatment and counseling. As he handed down the sentence, Dane County Circuit Judge James Martin said Purtell's abuse of the two dogs was "nothing less than cruel and hateful," and at another point said Purtell's actions were "repugnant" and "goes to the heart of who we are as human beings." Purtell moved in with his girlfriend and her two dogs in March of last year. Harry was a Scottish terrier who was just less than 2 years old, and Arrow was an 11-month-old Shetland sheep dog.
Andy Mackintosh: FT Services Lands A Record $1 Billion Maintenance ...
Suncor Energy Inc. and Flint Transfield Services Ltd. (FTS) have signed what is probably North America's biggest industrial maintenance contract to date, with revenue surpassing $1 billion over five years. The initiative also marks the first large-scale collaborative maintenance agreement in the oilsands. Andy Mackintosh, FTS's president and CEO, acknowledges that skepticism still dogs the concept of co-operative management on this scale between petroleum producer and contractor. "You'll hear someone say 'we tried that five years ago and it didn't work.' From experience, though, we believe otherwise. This contract is cost-reimbursable but our profitability is linked directly to improvements in Suncor's safety, plant reliability, and overall efficiency gains." To handle Suncor's turnarounds, maintenance and related engineering, along with some capital construction services, FTS anticipates hiring more than 1,000 additional employees and perhaps 200 subcontractors.

Health for All NY’s Children
Under the new state budget, the state-subsidized health insurance will now cover children in both low-income and middle-income families. Dr. Edward Lewis says 10 to 15 percent of his patients rely on Child Health Plus insuance. He expects that number will grow exponentially thanks to the new budget's expansion of the program. Since 1991, Child Health Plus has only been offered to low-income families of four who earned roughly $50,000 year. Now the income cut-off is more than $80,000 for the same family, allowing New York's middle class to also take advantage. Nancy Adams, Director of Monroe County Medical Society, said 74,000 of New York State's 400,000 uninsured children are in Monroe County. However, Adams tries to temper her excitment."The devil's always in the details and how are we going to pay for this coverage is the first logical question," she said.
Pet Insurance: Silly or Smart?
Pet insurance has become one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Just a few years ago, there were only three or four pet insurance companies. Today, there are about twenty. It has been raining cats and dogs at the Colorado Avenue Veterinary Hospital. During the recent pet food recall, Dr. Kristin Ballotti saw her share of panicked pet owners. She said, "We have an awful lot of clients whose pets are their children and you need to give them the quality care." Now, insiders think pet insurance companies will cash in on the chaos. The pet insurance industry has been around for twenty years, but it is only within the last two that insurance companies started turning a profit. Paul Bias with SPCA Pet Insurance said, "As with human health insurance you can find yourself really up against the wall if you go without it where you're having to make a decision whether to keep your pet alive or not." The average plans run between $200 and $500, with prices varying on coverage and the animal's age.

"TODAY, when you come to Umuchukwu town, it is clear that God's eyes are upon the community. Anyone who visits the area will know that God's favour is really upon us because I believe that in communities where the devil is in control, there is usually anarchy and progress would be retarded. Those who are willing to be used by the devil will always make themselves available to do his will but others who have the fear of God and love their community will not allow this to happen. This is just what we are witnessing in Umuchukwu." These were the words of Igwe Michael Ukaegbu, traditional ruler of Umuchukwu in Orumba South local government area of Anambra State. The royal father was recently abducted by unknown assailants from his palace at Umuchukwu following a feud between minority traditional worshippers and the majority Christian population in the community.
