| Rural youth can boost FIs, Insurance Cos` turnover
Financial Institutions (FIs) and Insurance Companies can rope in about 200mn Rural Investors in their fold provided they design innovative savings and loan schemes on lines of commercial banks and even post offices and multiply their annual turnovers by disbursing agri, housing, personal and education loans and easy insurance schemes at affordable rates to potential aspirants, according to Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). In a paper on 'Investment Potential Prospects of Rural India' brought out by the industry chamber, it has been stated that of the 700mn rural population, about 200mn rural youth have reasonable per capita income, but investment opportunities are virtually non-existent. "This is because, these have no access to popular savings instruments of various commercial banks, insurance companies and post offices branches in ulteriors of countryside and are disparately looking to channelise their finances for suitable returns. A good number of rural investors are also aspiring to become self reliant but lack avenues for credit in areas for food processing, better horticultural and agricultural facilities, training for skill development to process their milk etc., says the paper.

Don't nix antitrust insurance law
In his guest column ("Need for 'reform' in America's insurance industry is obvious," March 12), U.S. Sen. Trent Lott targets the insurance industry's limited antitrust exemption, part of the McCarran-Ferguson Act, as a reason why insurance companies earned profits in 2005. While I admire his commitment to Katrina victims, I respectfully disagree with his remedy. The antitrust exemption didn't cause the problems and repealing it will only exacerbate the state's insurance crisis. First, let me say that I do not represent or speak for State Farm. As president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi, I speak for small businesses in communities across Mississippi. We know how devastating Katrina was to our state. Going forward, we need to make insurance more affordable and available.
A Bit of Help
"Today I received a refurbished Gateway GT5032 computer with a 90-day warranty. There was no note or explanation with the computer as to what had happened. Doing the math on the warranty, I am really getting screwed since the original computer was to have had a one-year warranty and I was only in possession of it for 2 months, but the replacement was a nice machine. I guess that is supposed to be my consolation. Gateway really sucks. So, the machine is now for sale on EBay. I am so fed up with Gateway I don't even want it in the house. Thanks for your help and I would really appreciate you sharing how inconsiderate and unresponsive Gateway was in this situation. I strongly encourage everyone to stay far away from Gateway." So what finally spurred Gateway to action - my story, the state attorney general, or just the sheer weight of the reader's own complaints? Who knows, but if you face a similar problem, my suggestion is you try all of the above.
Female computer game fans 'less likely than men to have car accidents'
Female drivers are less likely to need to claim on their women's car insurance after playing a computer game compared with their male counterparts, a study has shown.Research conducted by psychologists has found that male computer racing game fans are more likely to be involved in real-life road accidents than women. The experts from Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians University worked with more than 200 people during the study, which highlighted that female drivers - who often benefit from cheap women's car insurance deals - took fewer risks in traffic situations after playing a game.Writing in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, published by the American Psychological Association, the researchers said: "Practitioners in the field of road safety should bear in mind the possibility that racing games indeed make road traffic less safe, not least because game players are mostly young adults, acknowledged as the highest accident-rate group."However, it may be wise for females wishing to keep their women's car insurance intact to avoid playing computer games before driving their cars, as the researchers add that racing games could lead to unsafe driving. An earlier study by BSM found that females may be more likely to risk a women's car insurance claim after playing a racing game, with respondents stating that they would be more likely to drive at speed in real life.Kwik-Fit Insurance was named the cheapest women's car insurance provider in the UK by research conducted last year.© Adfero Ltd Other Recent Women Drivers ArticlesWomen drivers 'less likely to be colour-blind' Women drivers 'should check new car's status' 4x4s 'more popular with women drivers' .
The Importance of Disability Insurance Must Not be Overlooked
Death or dying is something that every living person has thought about at least once. The idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else, said the late cultural anthropologist Ernest Becker. But according to Social Security Administration there is one other thing that people should think about – disability. While disability is something most people do not like to think about the agency said the chances of becoming disabled is possibly greater than most people assume. In 200, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that almost 20% of the population suffered from some form of long-lasting condition or disability. Social Security cited a study showing that a 20-year-old worker's chances of becoming disabled before retirement is 3 in 10 (or 30%). That is much higher than the chances of being killed in a bathtub accident, a car accident, any non-transportation accident, or by terrorist attack while visiting a foreign country.
How much life cover do you need?
The primary purpose of life insurance is to provide risk cover that offers financial protection to a policyholders dependents in the event of the policyholders death. One needs to have enough life insurance so that his or her family can continue with their current lifestyle even if the breadwinner passes away. .
Lenerd Louw: CEO, 1Life Direct
MONEYWEB: David Shapiro, go back in time a little bit. I remember in the mid-1980s having ongoing debates with the life assurance industry about the fact that, if I wanted to buy life cover for my life, I had to go through an insurance broker or an agent and I had to pay commission - there was no way around it. And the argument at that stage was a pretty spurious one from the insurance industry saying that well, you know, they had to look after their "channels", as they called them. DAVID SHAPIRO: Their brokers. But I think the Internet has changed all of that and I think progress today has changed that - particularly the Internet which brings so much competition, or enables you to look at various products. Before you used to rely on agents to come and sell it to you. You know, you used to have these chaps with a briefcase.
Mike Brewer's column
However, I've had sleepless nights wondering how many of you rushed out to your local dealer when you should be paying the house-keeping! Cars are undeniably cheap at present, but while the screen price could tempt you to sell the family silver, some of the hidden expenses have had me worrying. If you haven't got the money under the mattress, the chances are a dealer will bombard you with finance options. That way, you get the motor you want, and they share in the interest from the loan company, so everyone's a winner! .
Americans giving their pets drugs, sometimes paying with health ...
WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (AP) - With aging, it's become a routine faithfully endured by the Guffords. Each day starts with a blood sugar check and a shot of insulin. Then a couple of pills, maybe mashed into a bowl of tuna and canned carrots. Mixed with dry chow. All for their 12-year-old dog. Brownie takes more drugs than his human companions put together. He has been medicated in recent months for diabetes, infections, high blood pressure, and his finicky gut that rebels at red meat. Since 2005, he has taken drugs for everything from anemia to a spider bite. "He's our baby, he's a family member, I would want somebody to do that for me," explains Ann Gufford. She estimates spending $5,000 over the last two years on medicine for her baby, a mixed beagle-cocker spaniel.

Tuesday Newspaper Review - Irish Business News and International ...
The Irish Independent reports that the ECB's seven interest-rate increases since late 2005 are cooling Ireland's property boom and may help stave off a crash, Central Bank governor John Hurley said yesterday. As the latest survey showed house prices were unchanged in February from the previous month, Mr Hurley said the interest rates have reduced the affordability of housing and contributed to the slowdown in the rate of house price inflation. "We continue to have the view that there will be a soft landing," he said in an interview with news agency Bloomberg. He described the easing in house prices as a "positive development". The Bank has previously warned that the country's property boom could end in an "abrupt correction". "We've had very good reasons for the level of investment in construction that we had up to now," said Mr Hurley, citing factors such as population and income growth.

Is Search Engine Optimization Mainstream?
I prefer the term search engine marketing to search engine optimization. As Ive written about before, search engine optimization sounds too much like build it and they will come as opposed to actively and aggressively marketing a clients website, brand, and image. .
Will Sub-Prime Woes Affect the Auto Retail Business?
You see, dreamers are the persons who are responsible for putting us on the moon. Dreamers invented the automobile; dreamers invented the interstate highway system. Dreamers are the people who are moving our world foreword. And people who do not like dreamers are the ones who refuse to change, adapt or accept that their might be a better way. - Larry Edwards, Edwards & Associates, Fixed Operations Digest (volume 55). Housing market problems: 1) Flat out bad things 2) Bad things that create an opportunity I am sure you have been hearing a lot about all of the problems in the "sub prime" housing market lately. You've heard my rant about how problems in the housing market should not be used as an excuse for missing numbers. But I don't think my little peeves should be mistaken as saying there are never bad things that happen in the economy (dictionary.com: resources of a community).
Lack Of Health Insurance May Be Associated With Increased Rates Of ...
The lack of health insurance prompts people to forego routine physical exams and have a reduced awareness of cardiovascular risk factors and is associated with increased rates of stroke and death, researchers have concluded. A study in the April issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine, official journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine, found people without health insurance are more likely to forego routine physical exams and had a higher risk of being unaware of a personal diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol levels all risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Surprisingly, researchers say, the lack of health insurance did not translate into a higher risk for myocardial infarction, of heart attack. "We speculate that this may relate to the relative importance of hypertension as a risk factor for stroke, says Angela Fowler-Brown, MD, MPH, the lead author, a physician in the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
`Single-Payer' Idea Stays Afloat
A bill to create a single health insurer in Connecticut - an anathema to the industry - won half-hearted approval Tuesday from a legislative panel, which also passed a reform bill the industry favors. The Insurance and Real Estate Committee, in a 12-7 vote, approved a bill aimed at creating a "single-payer" system to ensure coverage for all Connecticut residents not on Medicare. .
