| What unions do
Union employees earn higher wages and are more likely to have employer-provided health insurance and retirement plans. The benefits of unions, however, extend far beyond the individual worker.Compared to states with few union members (like North Carolina), states with a high percentage of union members have higher average wages, fewer people in poverty, fewer people without health insurance, lower workplace fatality rates, higher public education spending per pupil and higher voter participation rates. The labor movement is responsible for the 40-hour work week, child labor laws and worker health and safety protections. In recent years, unions have organized against bad trade deals and the movement offshore of American jobs. Unions have fought to protect Social Security and increase access to affordable health care and prescription drugs. At a time when CEO pay, health-care costs and gas prices are skyrocketing while employees' wages remain stagnant, Americans need unions more than ever if we want the middle class to survive.Ajamu DillahuntOutreach coordinator, N.C.
Panama system helping Yahoo compete
Megan Hanely, vice president of direct marketing for Esurance, an online insurance company in San Francisco that advertises on Yahoo, welcomes Panama and said it has helped her sell more policies. Around the same percentage of Yahoo users click on her ads, but far more of them become customers. Hanely praised Yahoo's system for allowing her to better target Esurance ads by geography, an important consideration in insurance because of the variations in policies and rates across the country. The new formula, she said, makes the ad auction more rational because her company doesn't always have to quickly react if a competitor raises its bid by a penny. In any case, Hanely said that she hopes Yahoo succeeds, and that Google has healthy competition, if only for selfish reasons. "Having one dominant company, or even two dominant companies, is bad for competition," she said.
President of Health Insurance Agency Advises Businesses on What ...
There are so many types of plans available to small businesses today. Knowing how to chose the right one should not be hard if a logical approach is used, according to Chuck Mondrus, President of American Health Insurance, a top-producing agency in the United States. (PRWEB) March 15, 2007 -- Chuck Mondrus, President of top-producing insurance agency, American Health Insurance, says buying quality self employed health insurance coverage that's right for any stage of business growth with an eye to the future, is easy to do. An employer may be the only employee of the company but still needs the peace of mind provided by a quality insurance plan. Before the employer ask for a self employed health insurance quote, though, look at these three business growth scenarios.
Insure your loan?
If you are concerned about your health or job security then taking some form of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) may provide peace of mind.PPI is also known as Accident,Sicknessand Unemployment(ASU) insurance. In exchange for a monthly premium,PPI pays you a set amount of money to cover some or all of your costs ifyou are unable to work either because you have been made redundant (no good if you are sacked) and/or because you are unable to work due to ill heath. Never buy PPI with another financial product Whatever you do EveryInvestor advises that you do not accept PPIbundled with a loan or any other financial product. Only ever take this insurance outfrom an independent provider as a standalone product. Most online loan quotes automatically include the price of a costly PPI policy. Always recalculate for a quote without PPI.

Turn Lukewarm Leads into Loyal Customers
Zag Inc.'s CEO shows dealers how to use patience, consistency and some common sense to turn up the heat on those lukewarm online leads. Sure, you'd rather be able to feed your sales team hot leads of ready-to-buy consumers; people who want appointments for that very afternoon. That's an understandable, even good, strategy. But what about online window shoppers? How do you make the most of "lukewarm" online leads to seed future sales? The immediacy of the internet means it's easier than ever to find people close to a purchase, since consumers often have similar goals: find what they want and buy right away. Or, in the case of shopping for cars, get as close to the actual transaction as possible while online. Of course, there are some buyers who know what they want and if you don't have it, they won't be back.

Private Medicare plans too costly: lawmaker
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Private health plans that receive government funding for Medicare patients cost too much and force the government to lose money, the chairman of a U.S. congressional panel said on Wednesday. In the first of several hearings on the issue, House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Pete Stark said when the plans began 25 years ago they were supposed to be "better and cheaper than the government." But now "we are losing money for every person who enrolls in a private plan," the California Democrat said. .
How to lower your car costs
I hate writing checks for automobile insurance. It always seems like money down the drain - that is, until you need it; then insurance can be a lifesaver. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get the best deal possible. You wouldn't buy a new television without comparison shopping, nor should you automatically re-enroll in the same policy year after year - at least not without considering your other options. Here are a few cost-savings suggestions to keep in mind: Raise deductible Many people choose a low-deductible policy, thinking it'll cost less should they need to file a claim. But if you raised your deductible from $250 to $1,000, your premium could drop 15 percent to 30 percent or more. Because you probably wouldn't file a claim for a minor fender-bender (for fear your rates would rise dramatically), you could save that $750 difference through reduced premiums in a few short years.
Road crash death: American convicted of reckless driving
AN American motorist has been convicted of reckless driving that caused the death of an Iranian pedestrian on September 25, 2006. The court ordered him to pay QR150,000 blood money, jointly with the insurance company, to the family of the victim. The motorist was also fined QR6,000 and his driving licence cancelled for six months. The accused's lawyer, Waleed Abu Needa, told Gulf Times that he had already appealed against the verdict because Shariah punishment (blood money) cannot be coupled with any other penalty, according to the Qatari law. “Although the Qatari law is clear in this point, it is so frequent and I intend to prove that the blood money penalty, if imposed, must be the only penalty," he explained. Abu Needa, however, said that he was pleased that the ruling didn't include a jail penalty, as it was the case in similar cases “because the court believed that both the victim and my client were responsible for the accident." The accident took place on the stretch between Al Tadamon roundabout on D Ring Road and Muntaza signals on C Ring Road.
Injury coverage provision for Florida drivers set to expire this year
The clock is ticking on Florida's no-fault automobile insurance law, with the requirement that all the state's drivers carry mandatory personal injury coverage set to expire Oct. 1. Whether Floridians still will have to carry personal injury protection, or no-fault coverage, will depend on the Legislature, which this week will consider several proposals designed to revise the law and keep it in place, rather than have it disappear later this year. .

The Last Journey? depicts Avini?s last trip to the former Iran-Iraq war zone in southwestern Iran where he was martyred in 1993 by a landmine while making a documentary about soldiers who were still listed as missing in action. The film has been cinematographed by Morteza Sha?bani, who accompanied Avini whilst he was making ?The Narration of Triumph?, a documentary series which was aired regularly on IRIB in the first few years after the end of the war. ?The Narration of the Narrator? is another documentary by Hossein Mo?azzezini that will be shown during the program. In addition, after the screening of the films, Avini?s colleagues Mohammad Rajabi, Seyyed Saleh Musavi, and Mostafa Dalaii will talk about their memories of filmmaking on the war front. Avini became famous for ?The Narration of Triumph? and was considered a ?master of writers? by his colleagues and war veterans due to the fervent narrations he wrote for his documentaries.
Stumbo says Dems have to beat Fletcher
Atty. Gen. Greg Stumbo, campaigning in the governor's race with Bruce Lunsford in the May 22 Primary, came to Leitchfield Wednesday (4/4) to strategize with local supporters. It wasn't his first connection to the county. Stumbo's Office of Consumer Portec-tion sued the Old Falls of Rough Green Farm developers in 2005, saying the Green Farm Resort “sold residential building lots... through the use of false, misleading or deceptive practices." In an interview with the News-Gazette, Stumbo said he expected the state's Republicans would nominate Incumbent Ernie Fletcher. He said Anne Northup, R-Louisville, “is running well in Jefferson County, but when she gets out of Jefferson, she's in trouble. He called affordable health care the centerpiece of the Lunsford-Stumbo campaign.

Rendell plan would reshape health care
HARRISBURG — For many Pennsylvanians, the path to medical care may soon be less likely to lead to a doctor. In one of the most far-reaching attempts at the state level to make health care more accessible and affordable to everyone, Gov. Ed Rendell is seeking to lower barriers in Pennsylvania laws and regulations that prevent a wide range of nonphysician health professionals from providing basic types of care. From nurse practitioners and nurse midwives to dental hygienists and pharmacists, the Rendell administration wants to reshape health care practices in Pennsylvania to lower the cost of preventative care. The Democratic governor's initiative is yet another example of states stepping into a void created by a lack of federal action on health care reform."The national agenda's been overwhelmed by Iraq, and Washington has been paralyzed by ideological and policy gridlock on health care," said Drew Altman, the CEO of Kaiser Family Foundation, which studies health policy.
